Careers at Joon

Joon Solutions is a data and AI consultancy. Our engineers own the platforms clients run their business on, so we hire people who can already build them, then spell out what the next level asks for.

The work

You'll build data platforms for companies in retail, ecommerce, financial services, logistics, healthcare and digital-native businesses, across North America and Asia. A typical project takes a client from scattered data to a governed platform they can run themselves.

  • End to end: pipelines, data models, a semantic layer, dashboards, and the AI agents that answer questions from it.

  • On whatever stack fits the client. We're vendor- and tool-agnostic, so the problem picks the tools, not a partnership.

  • Alongside the client's own team. Knowledge transfer is part of every project, so you'll teach as much as you build.

Our data community

Data people learn best from each other. In 2022 we started the dbt Meetup in Ho Chi Minh City, and we still host it. We also run the Looker User Groups in Toronto, with Google, and in Singapore. Jooners organize, speak and show up, and if you want to give a talk, there's a stage.

How we work

  • We're spread across four offices and several time zones, so most work happens in writing, somewhere anyone can find it later. Meetings are for when someone is blocked.

  • We try to answer each question once. If the handbook doesn't cover something, whoever asked adds the answer after they get it.

  • Your time is your own. Nobody expects replies outside your working hours, and you can swap a weekday for a weekend day without asking for approval, as long as your team knows the plan.

  • You'll work in a pod of three to five people. Your pod lead runs delivery, reviews your work and writes your development plan with you.

  • When someone does great work, teammates send them Joon Points, which turn into gift vouchers.

What we value

The quoted lines come straight from our values handbook. They're written in the first person, so you can hold any of us to them, and so can our clients.

  • Can-do

Client problems rarely arrive with a clear answer. We start from what's possible and come with a plan.

    • I think about what I can do before what I can't.
    • I bring strategy and ideas, not just follow directions.
  • Community

We trust each other's intent, which makes it safe to challenge how things are done.

    • I assume positive intent in what others say and do.
    • I question the usual way of doing things, even when it's working.
  • Dependability

Nobody looks over your shoulder in a remote team. You plan your own work and keep your word.

    • I do what I say I'm going to do.
    • I'm a manager of one.
  • Efficiency

Written answers save everyone time. If the docs already cover it, nobody has to ask twice.

    • I document my work so nobody has to re-explain it.
    • I look for answers myself first.
  • Expert knowledge

Clients hire us for expertise, so we keep ours current: certifications, meetup talks and posts on our team blog.

    • I own closing my skill gaps.
    • I share what I learn with the team.
  • Transparency

Goals, problems and results are shared openly, including the things that went wrong.

    • I talk openly about goals, challenges and team performance.
    • I'm honest with myself and my team about what I did.

How you grow

Every level has written expectations, so you always know what the next one asks of you.

What you get

  • Free certifications from our technology partners, starting with Google Cloud.

  • Two performance reviews a year.

  • Time to write for our team blog, run technical sharing sessions and help build the data community.

  • In Vietnam: a 13th-month bonus, a yearly work-from-home budget, private health insurance, and 13 days' annual leave, rising to 15 from your second year.

How we hire

Four rounds. Each one tests something you'd do on a real project.

  1. Technical test

A short online test of the skills the role uses every day.

  2. Interview with an engineer

One of our pod leads asks about your experience, how you work and how you'd approach real problems.

  3. Case interview

A business case with our leadership team. We want to see how you turn a fuzzy question into a plan.

  4. Tech demo

Show us something you built and walk us through the decisions behind it.

Questions candidates ask

Do I need to know every tool you use?
No, nobody does. Strong fundamentals carry over between tools, and certifications from our technology partners are free.
Can I reapply if it doesn't work out?
Yes, six months after your last application. Use the time to prepare, then apply again.
How do I know a message is really from Joon?
We only contact candidates from @joonsolutions.com addresses or our official LinkedIn page, and we never ask for payment or bank details. If something looks off, email talent@joonsolutions.com.

Who we hire

We hire for these roles all year. Openings are posted on LinkedIn. If yours isn't listed, write to us anyway.
